A New Pair Of Shoes
NOVA 5 is not just another program as expressed by Brittney Brown. Brittney lives here in Houston’s Fifth Ward. She is originally from Port Arthur, she moved here several years ago. We met last September at J&J's Restaurant, a local soul food spot. Every Tuesday for four months the owner allowed me to conduct Bible studies in the restaurant, Brittney showed interest right away. She asked questions and offered to pass out survey questionnaires to other ladies attending.
The very next week she brought along her friend Miracle. Both young ladies stayed behind afterwards for additional prayer. To my surprise she told me she had a three year old son named Derek. The conversation became more serious; when she told me she had lost her job and could not buy her son a pair of shoes. This young mother, only 25 years old, was seeking solutions to the problems facing her. I mentioned NOVA 5 and the reason we’re here in the Fifth Ward community. She became so excited and began to cry. We hugged each other and exchanged contact information.
Brittney began to participate in services we provide. The services she participated in were trainings focused on professional development, social change, and financial seminars. Nova 5 was able to provide Brittney with a gift card and gift basket to help meet her immediate needs. She was also introduced to a NOVA 5 partner who purchased her son a new pair of shoes. Currently Brittney is still transitioning to find employment and searching for a new apartment. NOVA 5 is committed to Brittney's success and helping her achieve her goals.
NOVA 5 was created to change the present generation and to challenge generations to come. Your donation will help our organization to continue to carry out our mission of; Elevating Family Life and Establishing Independent Living.
